EA3 study: Oncology – Breast cancer study and data in Sandbox
Expansion Area 3 (EA3) studies aim to acquire additional clinical data centered around specific diseases through biobanks.
Aim: The oncology deep phenotyping studies of three cancer groups (breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer) aimed to utilize electronic health record data of these cancer patients to better characterize the histology of these cancers, high-risk genetic variants and relevant biomarkers for disease progression, and utilize this data for genetic analysis of the three cancer groups. The polygenic risk for breast cancer is well established and is known to modify the life-time breast cancer risks of high-risk variant carriers. However, breast cancer was selected as an EA3 study trait since further elaboration is needed for polygenic prediction of other cancer types and subtypes within breast cancer.
Methods: Data was captured at four biobanks: Helsinki, Borealis, Central Finland and Eastern Finland biobanks. The breast cancer database searches were done for structural pathology data, such as for tumor size, gradus and type, lymphnode data, tumor histological and tumor biology data. In addition, laboratory database searches were done for high-risk genetic variants.
Data: The breast cancer data has been placed in the Sandbox and is available for analysis. The breast cancer samples are from DF12 and the data has been collected from 3/6 biobanks.
Most up-to-date data from all biobanks can be found from:
