Hospital administered medications
The aim during FinnGen 3 is to supplement the FinnGen phenotype data with the key hospital administered medications, which have not been readily available via the Finnish national health register data. FinnGen has had medication purchase information from Kela registries, but medications administered at hospitals are missing (mainly drugs administered via i.v. route).
Obtaining hospital administered medication data through the hospital biobanks was first piloted with a set of 25 hospital administered drugs in two biobanks (Helsinki and Central Finland). These drugs consist mainly of biologics used in Task Force diseases and include i.v. glucocorticoids used for exacerbation for many diseases and two immuno-oncological drugs.
The data includes the drug's ATC code, agent name, and two dates: the administration date, which is available for immuno-oncological drugs and indicates the actual date of drug administration, and a date obtained from the hospital data lake, which is related to drug records but could represent either the prescription date or the actual administration date. Therefore, a column is added which indicates if the drug record is also in Kanta prescription data, indicating that record being a prescription rather than hospital administration.
